Ipswich Town have confirmed they have opened negotiations with manager Jim Magilton over a new contract. Magilton has been in charge at Portman Road since summer 2006 and has earned the plaudits for taking the Tractor Boys up to fourth place in the Championship table this season. The Northern Irishman, who spent eight years as a player with the club, replaced Joe Royle in his first managerial appointment. "We have begun discussions with Jim about a new deal," chairman David Sheepshanks told the club's official website. "More talks will take place this week and hopefully something will be agreed very soon."
