Ipswich Town are hoping to persuade Jason De Vos to postpone his retirement with the offer of a new contract.
De Vos, 34, hinted earlier in the season that he was ready to hang up his boots in the summer.
The former Wigan Athletic and Dundee United defender is out of contract at Portman Road at the end of the campaign.
But Tractor Boys boss Jim Magilton is hoping to persuade the veteran former Canada international to play on for another 12 months.
"He's been terrific for us this year and we have sat down and talked about his future," Magilton told the club's official website.
"At the moment he wants to concentrate on the rest of this season."
