Town boss handed fine

Ipswich Town boss Jim Magilton has been handed a Football Association fine but escaped a touchline ban for using abusive language towards a referee. Magilton was summoned before a disciplinary panel on Thursday to discuss his actions after the Tractor Boys were denied a late winner in the 2-2 draw with Burnley in October by an offside flag. "I had a fair hearing from the panel and I think they were sympathetic to the situation," he told the club's official website. "It wasn't a case of appealing over the charge, I wanted a personal hearing to present the facts surrounding it and I was given an opportunity to do that. "It was clearly a goal and that would have given us three big points and given the players a big boost as well, but it's in the past now and we move on."
