Ipswich Town have decided to appeal against the red card shown to midfielder George O'Callaghan during the 1-0 FA Cup fifth round defeat at Watford.
The Irishman was dismissed right on half-time at Vicarage Road for an alleged on stamp on Hornets stopper Dan Shittu, but Town boss Jim Magilton believes that his player was treated harshly.
He told the Evening Star: "We have now seen the incident on TV and video and feel we must show solidarity with George, who is heartbroken over his red card.
"We are appealing on his behalf as his actions were not worthy of a sending-off."
O'Callaghan had earlier said: "We ended up on the floor and I just flicked out at him to get him off.
"It was nothing, just a reaction. It happens time and time again.
"The referee said he was sending me off for stamping. It was definitely nothing malicious and I feel it was really harsh."
