Sheepshanks leaves post

David Sheepshanks has stepped down as Ipswich Town chairman and will be replaced by club owner Marcus Evans.

Sheepshanks, who had been at the helm of the Tractor Boys for 14 years, will remain as a non-executive director of the board and as chairman of Ipswich Town plc.

Evans was expected to assume the role after taking over the club in late 2007.

"The club has entered a new era and I feel it is the right time for me to step down as chairman of the club board," Sheepshanks told the club's official website.

"My experience will be available to the club and the board at all times."

Evans added: "He has faced many challenges as chairman and assisted the club to great highs and equally never shirked responsibility when faced with tougher times.

"I would like to thank David for his help over the last 16 months since I became involved with the club and for his many years of dedicated service."
