Ipswich Town have signed striker Jason Scotland from Wigan Athletic as a replacement for Jon Stead.

Scotland, 31, has joined for an undisclosed fee from the Premier League club on the same day the Tractor Boys sold Stead to Championship rivals Bristol City.

The Trinidad & Tobago international was prolific in the Championship for the Latics, but struggled to make much of an impact in the top-flight following his move to Wigan last summer.

Scotland, who will join compatriot Carlos Edwards at Portman Road, could make his debut in Tuesday's Carling Cup second round tie at Crewe.

"I am delighted to have joined Ipswich Town and look forward to trying to help the club get into the Premier League," he told the club's official website.
