Richards hits back at boo boys
25 Sep 2006 - 15:50:04
Ipswich Town youngster Matt Richards has told the club's boo boys they will not beat him after he was targeted again during Saturday's 3-1 home win against Sunderland.
The 21-year-old, who has worked his way through the youth ranks at Portman Road, was initially targeted by a section of the fans when being substituted in the recent clash with Southampton.
Boss Jim Magilton took him out of the firing line for the games against Coventry and Birmingham before putting him back into the side to face the Black Cats when Sylvain Legwinski and Simon Walton were ruled out.
Richards was replaced in the closing stages of the game and was again subjected to criticism from some supporters, but is refusing to let it get him down.
He said: "Obviously it wasn't a very nice thing to happen but I didn't let it bother me or affect the way I play.
"I'm not that kind of person and just wanted to get on with things as normal. I wasn't having the best of games (against Southampton) but still didn't feel I deserved that kind of treatment."
