Patched-up McAuley to play

Ipswich Town captain Gareth McAuley is confident he will be fit enough to play against Coventry City this weekend.

McAuley collided with the post when he cleared Michael Chopra's effort off the line during the first half at Portman Road and suffered a black eye that forced him to miss Tuesday's training session.

However, he told the club's official website: "I'm confident I'll be okay for the weekend.

"I was patched up by the medical team at half-time with a lot of strapping and we were going to see how it went for the first five or ten minutes, but it was okay in the second half.

"My shin is still sore and I haven't trained but it's improving and I'm pretty sure I'll be fine for the Coventry match."
