Magilton stands up for Bruce
11 Dec 2008 - 12:13:39
Ipswich Town manager Jim Magilton felt that defender Alex Bruce was slightly unlucky to be sent off in the 3-1 home victory over Bristol City.
Bruce was shown his second red card of the season for a studs-up challenge on Nicky Maynard just past the hour mark at Portman Road, with Magilton set to lose the player to a four-game ban.
He told the Evening Star: "It has come at a bad time for Alex because he has been outstanding for us.
"The referee was in a good position and if Alex has left the ground, then he deserves to go.
"He has got a bit of the ball and he has caught the lad over the top of the ball.
"Alex is a full-blooded lad and when he goes in for a tackle he goes in. He has never intentionally gone into a tackle maliciously to hurt anyone."
