Ipswich Town midfielder Gavin Williams has been ruled out for the rest of the season after undergoing keyhole knee surgery.
Twenty-five-year-old Wales international Williams has been sidelined since the 2-1 derby win at Norwich City earlier this month and boss Joe Royle had hoped that he would be back in action in around four weeks.
However, the Tractor Boys chief confirmed: "It is really bad news for us and Gavin.
"He had an exploratory operation on Wednesday and the surgeon has decided it is best to do a repair.
"There is bone bruising and cartilage damage and at this stage of the season we are not going to take any risks.
"It rules him out for the rest of the season, which wasn't what we wanted to hear."
