Bruce rejects Ipswich deal
15 Jan 2009 - 16:10:09
Ipswich Town defender Alex Bruce looks set for the exit at Portman Road after he rejected the offer of a new contract.
The 24-year-old had been offered a new two-year deal but with just six months left on his current contract, he is free to speak to other clubs.
Bruce is believed to have rejected the offer due to not being in line with other top earners at the club, but the Republic of Ireland international's expectations were not met.
Ipswich chief executive Derek Bowden told the club's official website: "We consider the offer to be a very good one but I can confirm that it has been rejected."
It appears unlikely that the club will break their wage structure to keep Bruce in East Anglia, with Bowden saying the subject is now closed.
"That is the end of the matter for now," he added.
Meanwhile, Ipswich manager Jim Magilton has stated that Richard Naylor could still have a future with the club.
Naylor has been sent out on loan to Leeds and has yet to be offered a new deal.
Magilton said: "He's going there for the month and we will see how it works out but that doesn't mean his career is over here, even if his contract is up in the summer.
"He can still have a part to play at this club."
