Blues boss Roy Keane is set to name a team of youngsters to take on Exeter in the first round of the Carling Cup this evening. Josh Carson could make his senior debut playing alongside fellow youngsters Luke Hyam, Reggie Lambe, Jack Ainsley, Troy Brown, Ronan Murray, Tom Eastman and Billy Clark. Keane has given the youngsters his backing: “It’s a big test, the younger boys will get a chance. We’ll be going with a young squad. Some of the young boys didn’t let us down on Saturday and they won’t let us down on Tuesday”. Brian Murphy is likely to play in goal with new signing Márton Fülöp away on international duty. Jamie Peters will continue at right-back with Tommy Smith and Troy Brown a possible duo in the centre. Shane O’Connor and Jack Ainsley will battle it out to start at left-back whilst Luke Hyam is likely to play the same holding-midfield role that was a success at Middlesbrough. Billy Clark will be a likely candidate to partner one of Grant Leadbitter or David Norris in central-midfield whilst Jon Walters could keep his place on the right. Ronan Murray and Josh Carson will be candidates for left-midfield. Tamas Priskin is also away with Hungary so Jon Stead is likely to start up front.
