Ipswich Town boss Paul Jewell says striker Connor Wickham is just showing "flashes" of his full potential.Since making his debut for Town in April 2009, while still a schoolboy, the 17-year-old has been touted as a future star. [LNB]"There's an awful lot more to come from Connor and I think that's the beauty of him," Jewell told BBC Radio Suffolk. [LNB]"He's shown in flashes great potential and ability, but he's a young player so he's going to have peaks and troughs." [LNB]Jewell added: "But he's progressing and he's only going to get better." [LNB]Wickham, who has represented England at under-21 level, gave a glimpse of his talent with a superb solo effort in Saturday's 3-0 win over Sheffield United.[LNB] We are looking to strengthen the squad and give the lads that are already here a help Ipswich Town manager Paul Jewell But Jewell is equally as keen for the youngster to show his predatory instincts. [LNB]"The goals that really matter are the ones he gets in the six-yard box and he'll get them," Jewell said. [LNB]"But it's also lovely to have the ability to pick it up in your own half and go around three or four people to score too." [LNB]Jewell has been using Wickham on the left-wing in recent games, a position he will not be used to, but the Town manager is confident the change will improve the striker's game.[LNB] [LNB][LNB] "He's playing in a position that's a bit strange to him at the moment," he explained. [LNB]"But he's working to his maximum when we've got the ball and when the opposition have the ball. [LNB]"And it will make him a better player in the long run, it's another string to his bow." [LNB]Meanwhile Jewell says he has players lined up to replace Jason Scotland, should the striker complete a loan move to former club Swansea. [LNB]Regardless of whether the Trinidad & Tobago international departs, Jewell is looking to add depth to his side. [LNB]"We've got a few options, we've got one or two ideas, a few irons in the fire, so we'll see," he said. [LNB]"We are looking to strengthen the squad and give the lads that are already here a help."
