Town move for youngster Brown

The 18-year-old midfielder was released by Fulham last season and was spotted by Blues' chief scout Steve McCall at an 'exit' game for unsigned players. After initially impressing former boss Jim Magilton, Brown, who has played for Wales at Under-15, 16, 17 and 19 age groups, has done enough to earn a contract from current manager Roy Keane. "I know from my time here already that Ipswich are a family orientated club," Brown told the Evening Star. "My goal is to impress and gain another contract next summer, but I know it is not going to be easy." Brown, who can also play at right-back, has become Keane's first 'outside' signing, and he could soon be joined by Lee Martin, who is available on a free transfer - although compensation to Manchester United will have to be paid.
