Southend game off

Ipswich have been forced to re-shuffle their pre-season schedule following the news that Friday's trip to Southend has been cancelled. The Championship club agreed to a request from the Shrimpers to cancel the friendly after contact from new Southend boss Paul Sturrock, who revealed he would not be able to field a competitive team. Town will now instead travel to face Conference club Histon for a 7.45pm kick-off. Club secretary Sally Webb told Ipswich's official website: "Paul spoke to Roy [Keane] and told him that unfortunately he wasn't in a position to put out a competitive team. "We've been in contact with Histon and they have kindly agreed to play us on Friday at short notice, which helps everyone out."
