Norris would welcome Irish call

Ipswich captain David Norris has confirmed he would welcome the chance to play for the Republic of Ireland. Norris qualifies to play for Giovanni Trapattoni`s side through his mother and could come into contention following his fine start to the season. He told the club`s official website: "When Steve Staunton was the manager he contacted me and asked about my availability. "Obviously I was born in England but my mum is Irish. They all love football so if the offer was there I certainly wouldn't turn it down. "At the same time, though, I`m not expecting anything to happen. They have got some good players and it`s not something I am thinking about. If it happens it would be a bonus."
