Magpies target Tractor Boys' Clarke

The 21-year-old is a free agent after being released by the Suffolk side and although McParland acknowledges that the competition for his signature will be stiff, he has vowed to do all he can to bring the free-scoring Irishman to Meadow Lane. Clarke managed just four goals at Ipswich but he scored 17 times in the lower leagues during loan spells at Brentford, Northampton and Darlington. "Billy is still young and inexperienced but I believe he has the potential to develop into a very good player," McParland told County's official website. "I haven't had chance to speak to him yet because he has been on holiday but I aim to do so in the next couple of days. "We have a number of strikers in mind but Billy is top of the list and although he is sure to have offers from a number of clubs, we will be doing everything we can to convince him that his future should be at Meadow Lane."
