Keane delighted for Town youngster

The 16-year-old, who turns 17 later this month, netted a brilliant injury-time winner to settle a poor contest at Portman Road.[LNB]The substitute juggled the ball in the box, turned and slotted home with aplomb to notch his first league goal.[LNB]His only other two strikes had come in a Carling Cup success at Shrewsbury in August.[LNB]Blues boss Keane was full of praise for the youngster but warned of the pitfalls ahead.[LNB]"I'm pleased for Connor," he said.[LNB]"I had a feeling he might have an influence on the game.[LNB]"I was surprised by the way it opened up for him and it was a good time to score.[LNB]"But it remains to be seen if he's a natural finisher.[LNB]"We'll know in the next few years."[LNB]Wickham is due to sign his first professional contract when he turns 17 on March 31.[LNB]He has previously been linked with a host of Premier League big guns and, when asked if there was a chance his young star could be poached, Keane said: "There's always a danger.[LNB]"He hasn't given me a promise but his dad and agent have been speaking to the chairman and chief executive.[LNB]"All I can do is keep him involved and hopefully the contract will take care of itself.[LNB]"We believe this a good club to learn your trade at but I live in the real world and there's always dangers out there.[LNB]"There are pitfalls for lots of players, whether it be other clubs coming in, women, drugs or bad injuries.[LNB]"That's why I've never been one for getting carried away with Connor."[LNB]Keane was delighted that his side notched their first back-to-back wins of the season in the Championship.[LNB]"It certainly wasn't a classic but they're the games we need to win if we're going to progress as a football club," he said.[LNB]"I've sat in front of the media enough times saying we've played really well but not got the results, so it's a change.[LNB]"It wasn't a great performance but we got the win and we'll take it."[LNB]Aside from Wickham's heroics, the game will be remembered for two red cards.[LNB]Scunthorpe's Cliff Byrne was dismissed for an off-the-ball barge on Jack Colback.[LNB]Town's Damien Delaney then followed him down the tunnel for a trip on Jonathan Forte.[LNB]Iron boss Nigel Adkins said: "It was very disappointing.[LNB]"Ipswich are a very good side. They play at a high tempo and pose a real threat from set plays. There's no apologies for our game plan.[LNB]"We nullified a good game of football but that was down to respect for the opposition.[LNB]"We tried to slow their tempo down but also felt we had a great opportunity to hit them on the counter-attack, which we did early on.[LNB]"We had a good solid, disciplined shape and defended resolutely, but the disappointing thing was one lapse of concentration in the 92nd minute.[LNB]"It's allowed them to go and get a vital three points.[LNB]"Now we'll regroup. We've got a good opportunity and it's about doing everything we can to keep our club in the Championship."[LNB]Of Byrne's sending-off, Adkins added: "We will appeal it."[LNB][LNB][LNB]
