Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy to make seven changes for EFL Cup clash

Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy intends to make seven changes to his starting XI for Tuesday's EFL Cup tie with Stevenage at Portman Road.

Town opened the Sky Bet Championship campaign with a 4-2 win over Barnsley, but McCarthy will rotate his team against the League Two side.

Midfielder Conor Grant, on loan from Everton, is set to retain his place, while Grant Ward, who came off the bench to score a hat-trick on his debut, will also start.

Paul Digby will come into midfield along with youngster Andre Dozzell, and Dean Gerken is set to be in goal. Republic of Ireland forward Daryl Murphy has been given some extra time off, while Brett Pitman (toe) remains out along with Giles Coke and Luke Hyam (both hamstring).

Stevenage manager Darren Sarll has no fresh injury concerns.

Boro lost their opening Sky Bet League Two game against Crewe on Saturday, and Sarll could be tempted to make changes.

Summer signing Rowan Liburd is looking for his first start for his new club after coming on a substitute in the 2-1 home defeat.

Midfielder Steven Schumacher remains on the sidelines after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in November.
