Tractor Boys begin life without Jewell Caretaker boss Chris Hutchings takes charge of managerless Ipswich as they host Sheffield Wednesday.

Assistant manager Hutchings has grabbed the reins on a temporary basis after Paul Jewell parted ways with Town by mutual consent on Wednesday, coming after a 2-1 defeat to Derby left the club winless in 11 games and bottom of the Championship.

The likes of Owen Coyle, Mick McCarthy, Alan Shearer and Alan Curbishley have all been linked with the position on a permanent basis, but it is Hutchings who will lead the side against the Owls. It is not known how Hutchings will line up for the encounter, with Jewell making one change against Derby from the XI beaten at Hull last weekend as Andy Drury came into midfield in place of Daryl Murphy. Striker Paul Taylor (foot) remains a long-term absentee while full-back Elliott Hewitt is expected to be ruled out again with tonsillitis. Sheffield Wednesday pair Jay Bothroyd and Anthony Gardner could both return to contention.

Striker Bothroyd missed the midweek defeat at Blackburn due to illness and an ankle knock, while defender Gardner also sat it out at Ewood Park with a slight knee complaint. Manager Dave Jones has no new injury or suspension problems, but midfielder Rhys McCabe (thigh) remains doubtful and new signing Adam Davies will be on the bench again as regular back-up goalkeeper Stephen Bywater is sidelined with pneumonia and Arron Jameson is out with a groin strain.

Right-back Joe Mattock returned to the bench as an unused substitute in midweek and is also in contention, but defender Reda Johnson (foot) and midfielder Chris Lines (groin) remain long-term absentees. The Owls, who slipped to second from bottom of the table this week, are chasing their first league win in 10 matches.
