Varney back on the buses following hamstring injury

Ipswich expect to have forward Luke Varney available again following a hamstring problem for the visit of Sky Bet Championship leaders Huddersfield.

Town boss Mick McCarthy reported no fresh injuries from the midweek goalless draw with Brighton.

Midfielder Jonny Williams, who is yet to feature since signing on loan from Crystal Palace, has stepped up his rehabilitation from an ankle injury and should feature for the Ipswich Under-23s in the Premier League Cup tie against Liverpool on Sunday.

Forward David McGoldrick (ankle) is another who could be in contention again following the international break, while defender Adam Webster (hamstring), Tommy Smith (back), striker Brett Pitman (ankle) all continue their recovery, along with midfielders Luke Hyam (knee) and Giles Coke (knee).

Huddersfield trio Mark Hudson, Chris Lowe and Rajiv van La Parra will all return to contention following suspension.

Defenders Hudson and Lowe, plus winger Van La Parra, missed Tuesday night's home win against Rotherham due to one-game bans.

Head coach David Wagner must decide whether to recall Hudson and Lowe to his defence or retain Tareiq Holmes-Dennis and Michael Hefele, who both made their home debuts in midweek.

Sean Scannell will hope to continue after replacing Van La Parra, while Wagner's only absentee remains Joe Lolley, sidelined since mid-August due to a foot injury.
