Ryan Fraser's winner kept Ipswich at the top of the Sky Bet Championship as they sank Preston 2-1.

Brett Pitman scored the first goal conceded by North End this season and Daniel Johnson levelled things up before the break.

But the Tractor Boys sealed their third victory in four league games when Fraser struck from 20 yards with 25 minutes remaining.

Brighton are second on goal difference after Kazenga LuaLua swept in his third goal of the season in the 35th minute to down Blackburn 1-0 at the Amex.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson scored eight minutes into injury time as Charlton beat Hull 2-1. Moments earlier Abel Hernandez appeared to have snatched a point when he cancelled out Simon Makienok's 52nd-minute header.

Charlie Austin gave his Premier League suitors another nudge with two goals as QPR sank Rotherham 4-2.

Austin, in the news this week after West Ham co-chairman David Sullivan questioned his fitness, looked in decent shape as he teed up Dutch midfielder Tjaronn Chery for the opener just before half-time.

Chery, the summer signing from Groningen, doubled his tally five minutes after the interval before Austin beat Millers goalkeeper Kelle Roos from 20 yards just after the hour.

Jonson Clarke-Harris and Tom Thorpe pulled two back for Rotherham but Austin's 90th-minute penalty secured the points.

Joe Bryan's early goal was enough for Bristol City to spring a surprise at promotion favourites Middlesbrough. Bryan tucked in Aaron Wilbraham's cross after nine minutes as the newly-promoted Robins ran out 1-0 winners.

Uwe Rosler is still searching for his first win as Leeds head coach after Sheffield Wednesday forced a 1-1 draw in the Yorkshire derby.

Portugal Under-21 international Marco Matias brilliantly lobbed the Owls into a 37th-minute lead but Chris Wood equalised in the 61st minute with his second goal in as many games.

Bolton's first goal in almost 11 hours secured a late point against Nottingham Forest.

Gary Madine missed a penalty for the hosts and it looked like they would be made to pay when David Vaugan lashed in his first Forest goal. But Stephen Dobbie struck from 20 yards in injury time to seal a 1-1 draw.

Burnley beat Brentford 1-0 courtesy of Michael Keane's first-half header, Cauley Woodrow rescued Fulham deep into added on time to snatch a 1-1 draw against Huddersfield after Nahki Wells' opener, and Reading drew 0-0 with MK Dons.
