Inverness manager Craig Brewster admitted Motherwell had been 'hungrier' than his side during Wednesday night's 3-1 defeat at Fir Park.
Thistle found themselves two goals down in the first ten minutes before pulling a goal back through Don Cowie.
However, David Clarkson's second of the game on the stroke of half-time put the home side out of sight.
"They were superb in the first 20 minutes and really put us under pressure," conceded Brewster. "They were first to everything and we couldn't cope.
"Motherwell got balls in the box and caused problems by putting us under pressure.
"They were up for it tonight. I thought they were sharper and a bit hungrier than us, their strikers were a real handful and you can see why they're third in the league, but the positives for me were in the second half."
