Esson keen to retain place

Inverness goalkeeper Ryan Esson intends to make the number one jersey his own after replacing regular first-choice shot-stopper Michael Fraser in recent weeks.

Esson joined Thistle on a free transfer last summer and caught the eye with a string of fine saves during Saturday's 2-1 victory over Kilmarnock.

"Michael Fraser has played a lot of games for the club, so I was under no illusions that I was going to play," admitted Esson, who played for Aberdeen before a spell south of the border.

"But I've stuck with it, and thankfully I've managed to get into the team.

"I knew when I came here that I might not be playing regularly, but I couldn't turn down an SPL club.

"I've been frustrated for a while now so getting the chance to play is brilliant."
