Defensive woes for Inverness
Published : 01 Aug 2010 14:31:16
French defender Kenny Gillet could make his Inverness debut against Real Valladolid to help ease a potential defensive crisis.
The 24-year-old left-back, who signed for Caley Thistle last week, was not included in the squad which defeated Queen's Park 3-0 in the first round of the Co-operative Insurance Cup on Saturday but may be put straight into the first team on Tuesday night after Grant Munro and Chris Innes both suffered injuries.
Munro was replaced by Innes at half-time due to a foot problem, but Innes lasted only 14 minutes before sustaining a groin injury.
Caley Thistle manager Terry Butcher revealed both were doubtful for midweek and acknowledged Gillet, who played most of last season at centre-back for Barnet, would be no stranger to the role if selected alongside Ross Tokely.
"It's disappointing that we picked up some injuries," Butcher said. "Chris Innes had a fantastic 14 minutes, but he pulled his groin muscle so that's very disappointing.
"It happened when he chested it down and passed it to Golly [Stuart Golabek], when a normal centre-half would have smashed it down the pitch and not got the injury.
"Grant Munro has had four stitches on the top of his foot from a challenge in the first half so that's disappointing as well."
