Rooney proud to reach milestone at Inverness

Adam Rooney ended up clutching the man of the match champagne, but for the player himself there was a more important achievement to celebrate in the aftermath of Inverness' comfortable 3-0 home success over Peterhead in the second round of the Co-operative Insurance Cup.

His brace against Peterhead moved him on to the milestone of 50 career goals - 27 of which came last season as Caley Thistle were crowned First Division champions.

"It's great to have scored two goals and the club is in the next round of the cup, but the bonus for me is that I've now reached 50 goals in my career," said Rooney, who already has four goals this season.

"It's good that I've now got that out of the way and hopefully I can go on to double it in the next few seasons.

"I knew at the end of last season that I was close to 50, so coming in to this season my aim was just to try and hit that target as soon as possible.

"If I could do that then I also knew the team would be playing well because that's the main thing. We have started the season brightly and we'll look to continue our good form on Saturday against Hamilton."
