Inverness hoping for derby inspiration

Inverness winger Billy King hopes Caley Thistle can kick-start their Ladbrokes Premiership campaign with a derby triumph.

Richie Foran's side misfired on the opening day of the season when they slumped to a 2-0 defeat to Partick Thistle in Glasgow.

It was not the start the Highlanders were looking for after qualifying for the knock-out rounds of the Betfred Cup.

But they failed to shake off their opening weekend disappointment and suffered more disappointment as they suffered a shock exit from the competition in the round of 16 as they lost to League One part-timers Alloa.

However, King insists his side have learned from their mistakes and hopes the atmosphere of a clash with northern rivals Ross County on Saturday can inspire Inverness to victory.

He said: "You could say there is slightly more pressure on both sides after the disappointing starts we've had.

"Coming out of the Alloa game and having lost to Partick Thistle, we're taking into consideration some of the things we need to improve on.

"You can get stuck in a rut with results but a derby match can give you a spur. Going into the game, we know we need to forget about went on earlier this week and remember the things we need to do to win."

Ross County have no fresh injury concerns ahead of the derby, with Marcus Fraser closer to full fitness and Scott Boyd resuming training after illness.

Martin Woods expects it to be a tight encounter between two ambitious sides."In the past, this game was looked as a bottom-six encounter," he said. "But now this is two clubs which are striving to be and expect to be in the top half.

"We're both now under pressure to be in the top six rather than just being satisfied with staying up, which is how it used to be.

"Inverness are a decent team with some decent players but I think on our day we're a better side."
