John Hughes keen to land Premiership prize money for Inverness

Inverness manager John Hughes has urged his players to tie up seventh spot against Dundee so the club can finalise new contracts.

Hughes fears losing midfielder Greg Tansey, who has a year left on his contract but was the subject of a January bid from Aberdeen, and forward Miles Storey, whose loan spell is up.

Caley Thistle have offered contracts to Iain Vigurs, Danny Devine, Lewis Horner, Aaron Doran and Owain Fon Williams, which would take his squad to 15 for next season, but he hopes to have the cash to sign another five players.

Victory over Dundee would seal B#50,000 in Ladbrokes Premiership prize money, and Hughes said: "Money is very, very tight so it all depends on Saturday's result. If we can get that result hopefully it will boost the coffers and we can get down to work.

"The ones we are looking at, although Tansey still has one year to go, he's our playmaker, he gets on the ball and makes things happen. He trains every day, no baggage whatsoever.

"I'd like to get him tied up for two or three years. Get Tansey tied up before we lose him.

"And the next one is Miles Storey, because you know what you're getting. At the start of the season we were a little short of pace over the top to stretch games and he came in and did really well. So let's get him tied up before we lose him.

"When you have got them on your own doorstep and you have got their time, that's the time to twist their arm."

The futures of attacking midfielders Jordan Roberts and Andrea Mbuyi Mutombo are also in doubt.

One player looking almost certain to depart is right-back David Raven, despite fans' protests.

"If the budget's tight you have to wheel and deal and I have no doubt one or two fans' favourites might have to leave," Hughes said. "But they have to trust our expertise. That's football, everything comes to an end.

"If I use the example of John Terry, Steven Gerrard, you have to move on. And if that frees up money to get a quality player, that's what you have to do."

Dundee will also be eyeing the B#50,000 prize on offer, while Darren O'Dea has urged club chiefs to go out on a limb to keep hold of defensive partner Paul McGinn.

The 25-year-old full-back's contract expires after Saturday's final game and he has already been linked with a move to Hibernian, where he would link up with younger brother John, while the rumour mill suggests Dundee boss Paul Hartley is lining up Hamilton's Ziggy Gordon as his replacement.

But O'Dea reckons Dundee already have a player with the potential to become even better on their books and urged the club to act now to tie McGinn down.

The former Celtic centre-back said: "I thought when I first came in that Paul was a decent player - but the more I've seen of him I now realise he is a very, very good player.

"His contract is running out. I couldn't tell you where the club are at with their talks with him.

"But I'd like to think they are doing their best to keep him because not only is he a fantastic player now, he's a player who will only get better.

"He's also a great lad who is really liked in the dressing room. I really hope he is here next year but that's down to the club and him."
