Inverness Caledonian Thistle reclaimed the second spot in the Scottish Premier League as Gary Warren scored twice in a 3-2 win over Hearts at Tynecastle while Motherwell lost 3-0 to Ross County.

Warren headed Inverness in front after 15 minutes but Jason Holt fired the hosts level 10 minutes after the break.

Billy McKay headed in his 18th of the season to restore Inverness' advantage on the hour mark but Andy Webster's deflected shot hauled Hearts back into the game after 74 minutes.

However, Warren popped up 13 minutes from time to head Inverness in front for the third time and move his side into second spot, 18 points behind leaders Celtic who face bottom club Dundee on Sunday.

Motherwell lost their grip on second place with a comprehensive 3-0 defeat at the hands of Ross County at Victoria Park.

Ivan Sproule opened the scoring in the 34th minute before setting up Richard Brittain for Ross County's second on 70 minutes.

Iain Vigurs volleyed home a late third to fire Ross County in to the top six.

Rowan Vine scored the only goal of the game in the 52nd minute as St Johnstone followed up their midweek draw with Celtic with a 1-0 win over St Mirren that leaves them level on points with Motherwell.

Aberdeen ruined Kris Boyd's return to Kilmarnock as they held their hosts to a 1-1 draw at Rugby Park.

Boyd, who was a free agent after leaving Major League Soccer side Portland Timbers, re-signed for the club where he started his career until the end of the season.

The 29-year-old, who is the Scottish Premier League's all-time top scorer with 164 goals across spells at Kilmarnock and Rangers, watched from the stands as Rory Fallon fired the Dons into a seventh minute lead but Killie drew level in the 40th minute through a Paul Heffernan strike
