Inverness goalkeeper Ryan Esson has signed a two-year contract following the club's return to the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.

Esson, 30, last played in the top flight of the Scottish game with Aberdeen in the 2005/06 season, after which he had spells with Shrewsbury and Hereford.

His return to the Scottish game with Caley Thistle has been a success, and in his second season after joining the Highlands club he played a major role in their promotion.

Inverness manager Terry Butcher told www.ictfc.co.uk: "It is encouraging that Ryan has committed himself to us.

"He was outstandingly consistent last season and his experience will serve us well in the top flight. We are still looking to add another keeper to the squad, replacing Kyle Allison, who was released."

Former Scotland Under-21 international Esson was keen to sort out his future, saying: "I'm pleased everything is settled. It was always my first choice to stay at the club."
