Duncan dares to dream of glory

Midfielder Duncan, 28, played his part in Sunday's goalless Scottish Premier League draw with Celtic as Terry Butcher got his Caley Thistle tenure off to a dream start, and he would love to follow it up with a run in the cup.[LNB]The Highlanders fell at the first hurdle last year with defeat at Hibernian, but have already disposed of Partick Thistle and are confident of adding Kilmarnock to their list of scalps.[LNB]And with the dressing room buoyed by last weekend's performance, Duncan said everyone at the club is now looking upwards.[LNB]"It was a good point and gives us something to build on," he said. "But cup games are always a bit special and hopefully we can get a result.[LNB]"We're starting to create opportunities again following on from the Hearts game, where I thought we deserved something."[LNB]Duncan lays credit for the resurgence at the feet of Butcher.[LNB]He said: "We're going in the right direction since the gaffer came in and said how he wants us to play, and he was pleased with the way the first game went.[LNB]"When a new manager comes in, everyone starts afresh; it's up to the boys who played last weekend to make sure they play well to keep their place in the team.[LNB]"Similarly with the subs and guys who played for the reserves on Tuesday, it's their job to impress the boss and win a place in the starting XI."[LNB]Duncan was a cup hero two years ago, scoring the only the goal of the game in a fourth-round win over Dundee United, which set up a quarter-final tie with Celtic.[LNB]Inverness have reached Hampden Park twice before, with semi-final appearances in 2003 and 2004 under the guidance of John Robertson.[LNB]And Duncan is hoping for a return to the national stadium this year.[LNB]He said: "A lot of the club's success in the cup competition came when we were in the First Division, because we went into the matches as underdogs, which suited us.[LNB]"But now, being the Premier League team can sometimes work against you.[LNB]"For a club our size, making two semi-finals in the past was excellent, but the next step is reaching the final and hopefully we can kick off another run."[LNB]The tie is one of four all-Premier League matches and Duncan thinks that could work in Caley's favour.[LNB]"We might be an unknown quantity in terms of the way we'll play," he said.[LNB]"Some of the guys that have come into the side will add a different aspect to our game. Lionel Djebi-Zadi came in at the weekend and did well, as did Richie Foran.[LNB]"Celtic and Rangers go into every competition expecting to win it and I don't see the Scottish Cup being any different.[LNB]"There are a few all-Premier League ties which is good, although we've got one.[LNB]"But if we get through, there are less SPL teams in the pot and it means we can make good progress."[LNB][LNB] Inverness CT 6/4[LNB], Kilmarnock 7/4[LNB], Draw 12/5[LNB]
