Inter return to winning ways

07 Apr 2008 - 10:00:44

Internazionale remain four points clear of AS AS Roma at the top of the Serie A table after beating mid-table Atalanta 2-0 on Sunday.

Patrick Vieira gave Inter a 21st-minute lead and Mario Balotelli added a second goal with 16 minutes left before Atalanta's Cristiano Doni was sent off in stoppage time.

Fiorentina are fourth after beating rock-bottom Reggina 2-0 thanks to Giampaolo Pazzini's goal midway through the first half and Adrian Mutu's last-minute strike.

Third-placed Juventus are only two points clear of La Viola after crashing to a shock 3-2 defeat against Palermo.

Oliveira Amauri fired Palermo into a 2-0 interval lead but Juve hit back to equalise after the break thanks to an Alessandro Del Piero brace.

However, Mattia Cassani grabbed an 85th-minute winner for Palermo who are now 13th in the table.

Sampdoria extended their unbeaten run to seven games and moved up to sixth after beating Livorno 2-0 with Cristian Maggio and Emiliano Bonazzoli finding the net in the second half.

Udinese were held to a 1-1 draw at Siena while Catania beat Napoli 3-0 to move three points clear of the relegation zone.

Parma remain in trouble after being held to a 2-2 draw by Lazio while Empoli improved their prospects of beating the drop as they won 1-0 at Torino thanks to Ighli Vanucchi's goal.
