Inter keep title bid on course

14 Apr 2008 - 11:22:10

Internazionale maintained their four-point lead at the top of Serie A after securing a 2-0 victory over Fiorentina on Sunday.

The reigning champions remained on course for a third straight Scudetto after goals from Esteban Cambiasso and Mario Balotelli secured three precious points at the San Siro.

Second-placed AS AS Roma kept up their pursuit of the leaders as they came from behind to beat Udinese 3-1 at the Stadio Friuli. Mirko Vucinic, Rodrigo Taddei and Ludovic Giuly's were on the mark for the Giallorrosi.

Sampdoria's UEFA Cup qualification hopes suffered a dent after they slipped to a 1-0 defeat at relegation-haunted Reggina.

The rare three point-haul moved Reggina off the foot of the table and revived their hopes of survival.

Napoli's own slim European ambitions were boosted by a 2-0 win over Atalanta courtesy of second-half strikes from Marek Hamsyk and Ezequiel Lavezzi.

Towards the foot of the table, Empoli and Parma both remain dogged by relegation fears following a 1-1 draw at the Stadio Carlo Castellani.

Cagliari though moved out of the relegation zone after a timely 2-1 success over Livorno. Robert Acquafresca's brace moved the Sardinians out of the danger zone and left Livorno bottom of the table.

Torino were also left looking anxiously over their shoulders after slipping to a 3-0 defeat at Genoa. Walter Novellino's side are now just four points clear of the drop zone.

Meanwhile, Lazio and Siena shared the spoils after a 1-1 draw at the Stadio Olimpico.
