Adriano will return to Internazionale in a bid to salvage his career at the San Siro under new coach Jose Mourinho.
The troubled Brazil striker spent the second half of the last season on loan at Sao Paulo after a series of disciplinary problems with Inter.
Adriano scored six times as Sao Paulo reached the quarter-finals of the Copa Libertadores, but club president Juvenal Juvencio has revealed the forward is now set to return to Milan for pre-season training.
"The contract will be rescinded," he said. "He asked us for a resting time to return to European football and we accepted.
"Adriano's focus is somewhere else. He helped Sao Paulo a lot, but his time is over.
"We must remember the good things he did."
