Whilst Ronaldo has become somewhat eclipsed in the press and internet since his retirement by a certain Cristiano, the later has some way to go to overcome the lasting records of his namesake. Ronaldo was a freightening proposition for any defender, being big, powerful, fast but also having a box of tricks that enabled him to humble even world-class defences.

Honours: Ronaldo was one of the most prolific scorers in the world in the late 1990s and the early 2000s. He won his first Ballon d'Or as the European Footballer of the Year in 1997 (aged only 21) and again won the award in 2002 (26 years old). Additionally, he is one of only two men currently to have won the FIFA Player of the Year award three times, along with French footballer Zinedine Zidane.
