Ranocchia rescues Inter to seal Cup semi place

Andrea Ranocchia scored a dramatic winner in the final minute of extra time to send Inter Milan into the semi-finals of the Italian Cup Tuesday with a 3-2 win over plucky Bologna.

Freddy Guarin and Rodrigo Palacio scored one apiece in regulation time to give Inter Milan a 2-0 lead with 23 minutes to play.

However playmaker Alessandro Diamanti reduced arrears in the 80th minute to spark an unlikely combeack for Bologna, who levelled four minutes later thanks to on-loan Juventus striker Manolo Gabbiadini.

It went to extra time, and just as penalties seemed inevitable Ranocchia rose and got his head to a floated corner from Guarin to send a looping header over the helpless Federico Agliardi and into the net.

Inter, who have won the Cup seven times most recently in 2011, will now meet either Serie A champions Juventus, Lazio -- both of whom have already qualified -- or the winner between Fiorentina and Roma, who play Wednesday.

Inter sit fourth in Serie A, seven points behind Juventus, but have said winning the Cup for an eighth time was high on their agenda this season.
