Inter Milan boss Walter Mazzarri has been sacked by the Serie A club.

Mazzarri has paid with his job with Inter ninth in the table, following a 2-2 home draw with Verona.

A tweet from the club read: "FC Internazionale announces that Walter Mazzarri has been relieved of his duties as first team coach."

A statement from the Nerazzurri followed thanking the 53-year-old former Sampdoria and Napoli boss for his efforts with the club.

It read: "The club would like to thank Mazzarri for the commitment, dedication and professionalism he showed over his 17 months in charge.

"Today's training session will be conducted by Giuseppe Baresi."

Inter are currently 12 points behind leaders Juventus after just four wins from their 11 games to date, although they top their Europa League group with an unbeaten record from four matches.

Early reports suggest Roberto Mancini could take over as Mazzarri's replacement in time for the Milan derby on November 23.

The former Manchester City coach won three championships and two Coppa Italia during his time in charge from 2004 until 2008.

The 49-year-old, who spent four years at the San Siro in his first spell as coach, has been out of work since he left Galatasaray in June.
