Inter Milan have been fined £50,000 euros (£43,200) after a section of fans racially abused AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli during Sunday night's Milan derby, the Lega Serie A have confirmed.

The Lega took action after the 22-year-old was subjected to "racially discriminatory chants" by a section of Nerazzurri fans at the San Siro, while several supporters were seen waving inflatable bananas towards the Italy international.

A statement published on Gazzetta.it confirmed that Balotelli has also been fined 10,000 euros (£8,600) for directing a vulgar gesture at the Inter fans when leaving the pitch at the final whistle, with Milan receiving a 10,000 euro fine for unveiling "insulting banners".

Inter were recently fined 20,000 euros (£13,200) when a section of fans were heard singing racist songs about Balotelli during a Serie A match against Chievo.
