Italian league officials have sanctioned Inter Milan for racist incidents against Juventus by closing the north end of the San Siro to fans for their next home game against Fiorentina.

The decision was announced by league officials on www.legaseria.it Tuesday and means fans will be denied entry to the upper 'green' section of the 'curva nord', where the club's die-hard fans usually congregate for home games.

Inter hosted Juventus on Saturday, when "chants and noises of a racist nature were heard during both halves of the game", said a statement.

Juventus have two black players in their side, Ghanaian Kwadwo Asamoah and Frenchman Paul Pogba.

Inter fans were also accused of targeting the match referee and Juventus players with laser pens.

The match finished 1-1 after Chilean Arturo Vidal levelled for Juve two minutes after Argentinian Mauro Icardi had come off the bench to give the Nerazzurri a 73rd minute lead.
