Inter chief bemoans penalty decisions

Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti has complained that his side are being punished by incorrect penalty decisions, as they sit above the relegation zone only on goal difference.

Inter have had a terrible start to the season, losing four out of six league games while losing six out of nine in all competitions.

Only Cesena have fewer points in Serie A while Inter's defensive record is the worst.

The 2010 Champions League winners lost 2-1 at Catania on Saturday night with the winning goal coming from the penalty spot.

Television replays suggested the referee had been wrong to award the spot-kick but both coach Claudio Ranieri and captain Javier Zanetti refused to blame the penalty for the defeat. Not Moratti, though.

"If I have to think only bad things it comes to my mind that we've conceded four penalties this season and three of them were invented," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"And two out of those three were decisive. It's not nice and at this point we hope that there is some understanding that so far what's happened to Inter cannot merely be described as exaggerated."

Although Inter seem to be in crisis, they are, however, just eight points off the Serie A summit and only four behind title favourites and city rivals AC Milan.

No team has won more than half their games this season which has resulted in a congested table.

"I'm trying to think about the fact that everyone's going so slowly that being second from bottom or seventh doesn't change much," added Moratti.

"But it's true that it's a horrible position. It's so horrible that I think it's having a negative effect on the players, it's blocking them.

"It's something new for the players and I think it's knocked them back."
