Gabriel Barbosa is determined to help the "biggest team in Italy" mount an overdue challenge for the Serie A title after joining an Inter Milan side seemingly on the up and up.

The Brazilian forward - commonly known as 'Gabigol' - joined Inter in the summer despite reported interest from Manchester United and Chelsea, while a Chinese club also made a "big offer".

His unveiling at San Siro comes at a time when the Nerazzurri, who have not clinched the Scudetto since Jose Mourinho's treble-winning season in 2010, are flying high in the league table.

"The team are playing well now and I'll give everything I've got," Gabriel told the club's official website.

"I can play in several positions, so it's up to the coach. My goal is to help the team.

"I had a big offer from China, but I decided to come here because Inter was always my first choice.

"There were offers from all over the world but I've joined the biggest team in Italy and I'm delighted with my decision.

"The fans have really impressed me. I want to promise them maximum commitment and motivation. We know that there are big challenges ahead but we're focused."

Gabriel, if he plays against Bologna on Sunday, could partner Mauro Icardi. With six goals from five games, the Argentinian captain has been the standout player in the fledgling Italian campaign.

"Inter is not just Icardi," added Gabriel . "He's an idol - I've been following him forever and think he's a top player.

"All of the players have been really friendly. They've made me feel very welcome and now I can't wait to make my debut and play alongside them."

Reigning champions Juventus reclaimed top spot from Napoli in midweek and the title rivals are both in action on Saturday night, with the Bianconeri visiting Palermo before the Azzurri host Chievo.

Third-placed Roma travel to Torino in the early kick-off on Sunday while improving AC Milan are up against Paulo Sousa's Fiorentina at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

Genoa's strong start has faltered and they sit eighth in the standings before entertaining Pescara, with Lazio looking to make advances with a positive result against faltering Empoli in the capital.

Elsewhere, basement boys Crotone welcome Atalanta, Sampdoria are in Sardinia to play Cagliari, and Europa League team Sassuolo will look to get back to winning ways at the expense of Udinese.
