Champions League preview - Inter stare elimination in the eye at San Siro

Inter Milan are on the verge of being the second Italian side eliminated in the group stages of this season's Champions League.

The Nerazzuri face Russian surprise package Rubin Kazan knowing that they need a result to progress from the most unexpected group of death.

Rubin, who were crowned Russian champions for the second year running last week, need to go to the Guiseppe Meazza stadium and win to knock Jose Mourinho's side.

Inter will be boosted by the return of Dutch ace Wesley Sneijder as Mourniho looks to prolong his Serie A career.

The other game in the group could also spell disaster for the current European champions. Barcelona will advance to the knockout stages unless they lose 2-0 or by three goals or more away to Dynamo Kiev.

Neither English side have much to play for, except Liverpool's pride. The Merseyside club are already out of the tournament but face an in form Fiorentina side who need just a draw to secure top spot in the group.

Alberto Aquilani is expected to make his first start at Anfield as Rafael Benitez looks to change his team around with one eye on the important Premier League tie with Arsenal at the weekend.

Youngsters Stephen Darby and Jay Spearing are set to start alongside the £18m former Roma ace. Arsenal, on the other hand, have already won their group and are set to name a squad with Mikael Silvestre and Theo Walcott as its senior players.

Arsene Wenger will rile Belgian side Standard Liege by putting out players such as Tom Cruise and Kyle Bartley in Greece against Olympiacos.

The Greek side just need a draw in order to progress from Group H at the expense of Standard. If Arsenal and Liege both win the Belgian side will go advance.

In the final group, the winners of the game between struggling German side VfB Stuttgart and Unirea Urziceni will join Sevilla in the knockout stages.

Stuttgart, who have recently announced ex-Tottenham boss Christian Gross as their manager, have home advantage but need to win as they trail the Romanians by two points.

A draw will suit Dan Petrescu's side as they bid to make the second round in their first Champions League proper appearance.
