Former Hungary footballer and double Olympic gold medal winner Dezso Novak has died at the age of 75, his family announced to the Hungarian Football Association late Wednesday.

The skilful midfielder played nine times for Hungary between 1959 and 1968, and was joint top scorer at the 1964 European Nations Cup (the tournament was renamed the European Championships in 1968).

He also won gold medals with Hungary at the 1964 and 1968 Olympic Games as well as a bronze medal in 1960.

Novak played 333 times and scored 69 goals for Ferencvaros, who he later coached to league titles in 1981, 1995 and 1996, becoming the first coach to guide a Hungarian club into the Champions League in 1995-96.
