Wage bill concern for Pearson

Hull City chairman Adam Pearson has warned that the club will have to sell a number of players to survive if they are relegated from the Premier League this season.

Pearson says that only a handful of the current Tigers squad have clauses that will trigger wage reductions if the club drop down, a situation that will ensure major departures.

He told the Hull Daily Mail: "Our wage bill will reduce if we go down but it wouldn't solve the problem.

"There are about six or seven who have clauses put in place by the club, but they are not particularly big clauses.

"I wouldn't say they will make a substantial difference to the wage bill, so we would have to go down the route of moving players out, players that ideally we would like to keep.

"I would prefer it if there had been more attention paid to that kind of clause upon promotion to the Premier League.

"The wage bill, if the worst came to the worst, would have to be trimmed further substantially."
