Tigers told to focus on home

18 Jun 2009 - 14:23:59

Assistant manager Brian Horton believes a slight improvement at home will help Hull City avoid the problems they faced at the end of last season.

The Tigers dropped from a comfortable mid-table position to the fringes of the relegation zone during the closing months of the campaign after failing to win any of their last 11 home games.

Next season begins with a difficult trip to Chelsea followed by two home games against Tottenham and Bolton and Horton believes he has pinpointed the main area which requires improvement.

"We couldn't buy a home win in the second half of last season and that's something that needs to change," he said. "The KC Stadium has to be a fortress for us again.

"If we'd have had even a half-decent home record last season, we'd have finished in mid-table.

"The number of games that we lost by a single goal - Stoke, Blackburn, Spurs, Villa, Bolton - suggests we weren't a million miles away but we lost too many games late on."
