Hull City boss Peter Taylor has bolstered his strikeforce for next season's assault on the Championship by signing SC Beira Mar frontman Steve McPhee in a £220,000 deal.
The 23-year-old Scot, who had spells with Coventry City and Port Vale before moving to Portugal last summer, was delighted to be given the opportunity to return to English football and took little persuading to sign a two-year contract at the KC Stadium.
"A number of big clubs have shown an interest in me, both in Portugal and back in England, but once I had spoken to Peter Taylor at Hull, I knew it was too good an opportunity to turn down," he told the Stellar Group's website.
"The plans they have for next season are fantastic and I know the club is determined not just to make up the numbers in the Championship, but to launch a serious challenge for a place in the Premiership.
"I shall be doing my utmost to score the goals we need. I want to have a nice break to recharge the batteries and then come back ready for a good pre-season."
McPhee scored five times in 21 starts as Beira Mar were relegated from the Portuguese SuperLiga, having previously netted 39 times in 130 games during three years with Port Vale.
