Hull City have been given permission to open talks with Marlon King after agreeing a fee with Wigan Athletic for the striker.
The Tigers have reportedly agreed a club record fee of £3.5million for the Jamaica international.
King has only been with the Latics for six months following his arrival in a £5million switch from Watford during the January transfer window.
However, he is being allowed to move on after scoring just once in 15 appearances for Steve Bruce's side.
Championship side Derby County had also been linked with a move for the former Gillingham and Nottingham Forest frontman.
"We've agreed terms with Wigan and will be talking with the player over the next 48 hours," manager Phil Brown told the Hull Daily Mail.
"It's about getting it right in the transfer market, not doing it quickly."
