Tigers miss out on Pizarro
13 Aug 2008 - 09:55:39
Hull City manager Phil Brown has conceded defeat in his attempt to sign Chelsea's Peru international striker Claudio Pizarro.
The 29-year-old struggled to make his mark in his first season at Stamford Bridge, scoring just two goals in 32 appearances, but Brown accepts that the Tigers cannot meet the player's wage demands.
He told the Hull Daily Mail: "It doesn't look likely that it's going to happen.
"We asked what any deal would cost and then we tried to be creative with it. You've got to be creative once the figures are out of your reach.
"If you've got a receptive selling club then you've got a chance, but the ins and outs of the deal make it a very expensive one."
Pizarro joined the Blues on a free transfer from Bayern Munich, having previously made his name in Germany with Werder Bremen.
