Hull City are hopeful that George Boateng and Anthony Gardner could return from injury in time to face Newcastle United on Saturday.
Veteran midfielder Boateng has been out of action since picking up a thigh problem in the season-opening victory over Fulham three weeks ago.
"George has been with a physiotherapist department that the national team of Holland uses over in Amsterdam" manager Phil Brown told the Hull Daily Mail.
"He's been over there and come back looking in good shape.
"We'll get a further scan and hopefully get the results of that on Thursday with a view to Saturday. It's touch and go - probably 50-50."
Meanwhile, Gardner could also return after the defender missed the 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Wigan Athletic before the international break following surgery on a thigh muscle injury.
"It's been an ongoing problem that he's had for probably the last two years and there was a lot of clotting and old blood in his thigh," revealed Brown.
"He's had the operation to remove all that and it must have taken three quarters of a pint of unwanted stuff out of his thigh muscle."
