Tigers hint at Owen interest

Hull City have emerged as the surprise favourites to sign Newcastle United striker Michael Owen.

The former Liverpool and Real Madrid forward is out of contract at St James' Park at the end of this month and seems certain to be leaving the Magpies at some time this summer.

Owen has endured an injury-ravaged four years on Tyneside but the Tigers are willing to take a risk on him.

"We're interested in Michael Owen on the right terms," confirmed City chairman Paul Duffen.

"He's a fantastic footballer. He's had a few injury problems but we'd have to be interested in him.

"If the right deal can be done then we'd definitely be keen to sign him. We're an ambitious football club and we want to show that.

"It would be an enormous move for us but the deal can be done if it's on the right terms."
